Isle of Wight archer Summer Chambers has claimed the title of Indoor Champion for 2026 after delivering a strong double performance at this year’s Hampshire Indoor Championships.
The event, held over the weekend (31st January/1st February), saw Summer take part in both a WA18 round and a Portsmouth round.
On Saturday, she competed in the WA18 round – a World Archery indoor format consisting of 60 arrows shot at 18 metres on a 40cm target face. She scored 529 in the singles and 514 in the doubles, giving her a combined total of 1043.
This impressive score not only secured 1st place in both singles and doubles, but also marked a personal best.
On Sunday, the 15-year-old took on the Portsmouth round – a popular 60-arrow competition at 20 yards on a 60cm target face. Summer scored 558 in the singles and 552 in the doubles, totalling 1110.
While she acknowledged it was a more challenging day following Saturday’s efforts, the results were enough to seal her overall championship win.
Summer has said:
“My goal for the past few months has been to hit 570, and even though I didn’t reach it this time, I know I’ve got plenty more chances ahead!
“Thank you to everyone who supported and encouraged me – it really means a lot!”
This latest success builds on her remarkable achievement at the end of 2025, when she was crowned Under 15 Recurve National Indoor Champion at the Junior National Indoor Championships in Coventry. Competing in her first national event, she scored a personal best of 568 out of 600 to top the leaderboard and secure her place as one of the country’s top young archers.
