UPDATED: SMASH BETWEEN CAR AND PARKED VEHICLE BLOCKS SANDOWN HIGH STREET

Traffic is building in Sandown as a result of a collision between a car and a parked vehicle on the High Street. A blue Toyota Aygo has crashed into a parked grey Hyundai Ionic near the junction with York Road. The Toyota has come to a rest side-on across the carriageway with front-end damage evident. The driver and passenger of the vehicle appear shaken, but uninjured. Sandown’s one-way High Street is now completely blocked which is causing travel disruption in the area. Southern Vectis says that Routes 2, 3 and 8 bound for Newport will divert via Avenue Road and Broadway to resume a normal route. Police have been called to the scene. UPDATE @ 17:04 – 1 person has sustained a minor injury, according to Police. 1 fire engine from Sandown has been called to the scene in the interests of safety. The road is expected to be re-opened shortly with the Toyota moved to a parking bay.
