A yachtsman who received a head injury aboard a classic yacht became the subject of a rescue operation on the Solent this afternoon (Thursday). It had been reported that the sailor had been hit by the yacht’s boom. Cowes RNLI’s Atlantic-85 lifeboat was tasked to rendezvous with the yacht in the mid-Solent, between Osborne Bay and Lee-on-Solent. The lifeboat took the casualty, who was conscious, to Trinity Landing in Cowes where he was tended to by a doctor. The male was later driven by car to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport for further assessment. The lifeboat launched at 13:45 and returned to station at just over half an hour later at 14:25.
