UPDATED: RIDER ‘TRAPPED UNDER VAN’ IN MIDDLE ROAD CRASH AT CHESSELL

Police, paramedics and firefighters are responding to a road traffic collision between a motorcycle and van at Chessell this afternoon (Monday). The incident has occurred at the junction of Middle Road and Brook Road where a Ford Transit tipper has collided with a black motorcycle, trapping the rider underneath the van. The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service has an ambulance crew, a critical care paramedic and an operational commander on scene. Meanwhile, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has mobilised 1 appliance from Newport. Police are also responding to the incident, which happened shortly before 14:00. UPDATE @ 15:35 – The motorcyclist has been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital with what are being described as serious injuries. Recovery of the motorcycle and van has been arranged. The road is expected to re-open shortly.
