The weekend has not got off to a great start for Red Funnel with the cancellation of at least 2 vehicle ferry crossings and 2 Red Jet sailings due to yet more technical issues. The cross-Solent operator is advising that the 07:00 sailing from Southampton and the 08:30 from East Cowes have both been pulled this morning (Saturday). A fault with the voith unit on Red Osprey is to blame. The 07:15 Red Jet from Southampton has also been cancelled, as has the 07:50 from West Cowes due to a fault with the generator onboard Red Jet 7. It’s unclear at this time if the problem can be easily resolved, or whether there will be further cancellations or delays as the day progresses. Today’s cancellations are the latest in an ongoing saga, with numerous delays and cancellations on Red Funnel’s vehicle ferry and Red Jet service over the past few weeks. Red Funnel apologise for any inconvenience to your journey. UPDATE @ 08:13 – Red Funnel say their hi-speed Red Jet service has now returned to timetable.

“He cries out in pain as he strikes you”
It’s only a matter of time before one of these ferries break mid journey and they have to call the AA!
Don’t know about the AA, but the MCA might be a better bet.
There are few bodies quite as pointless as the Maritime and Coastguard Agency – MCA.
Do you really have any idea what this body of people actually do?
I suggest you do some research before coming out with comments like the one you have.
What is the betting they increase the cost of the vouchers that come out soon.
Just to rub salt into the wound.
Hideous company have us by the throat
All we want is a cheaper and reliable Ferry service
It is not a lot to ask
I can’t be the only person who finds it strange that the more anger grows, and calls for an investigation gather momentum, the more ‘breakdowns’ occur! Are we being told to behave or else the service goes into meltdown!!
Waitrose car park is the unofficial Red Funnel car park again – packed with miserable travellers in steamed up cars. No space for Waitrose customers! Re rescue service for ferries, I think SeaStart would struggle to tow one of those in!
I’m sure senior management will forgo a pay rise this year, as recognition for the lousy service they have provided for the fare paying public this year!
What do expect from a company run by incompetence that just sack people because their ‘face doesn’t fit’ anymore!
Bring back “Cowes Express” from an ex Cowes Express crew Member. We were faster, more fun, and cheaper. And loved by all.
The failures in service have got much worse over the past 2-3 years why? There is more going on with RF than we are aware of, perhaps the DoT need to do there own investigation as to why the service levels are continually being disrupted or should I say non existent? Bad enough with FB6 but even that seems to be winning in the delivery of service levels – which is more worrying!
Surely these days it’s ‘news’ when the ferries are operating to timetable.
