Priory School’s Year 9 basketball team were crowned U14 IOW Basketball League champions after competing at Medina College last Thursday (14th March). Having won all of their group games, and winning the semi-final 9-0 and the final 8-0, the Priory School team are now Island champions. Miss Mildenhall, Priory School’s Sports Coordinator, said:
‘To say I am thrilled is an understatement. The skill and determination of this team were commendable. They worked together so well, communicating and supporting each other on and off the court. “They truly deserved this win and should be incredibly proud of themselves.”
Mr Byrne, Priory Sports Coach, added:
‘They have been training hard, especially on their turnover and defence, at break times and at our basketball club. I am very proud of them all and the practice has now paid off.”
Mr Peake, the tournament organiser, commented:
“Raymond is one of, if not the best, basketball player for his age on the Island, but this clearly was a team effort, where each individual played a big part in the end result.”
