It was a case of so near yet so far for a River Medina-based day boat when it suffered engine trouble in the Solent yesterday afternoon (Wednesday).
The boat, with 2 people on board, lost power just west of the Cowes Harbour entrance.
Wind over tide conditions meant their anchor was unable to prevent the craft steadily drifting westwards, prompting the launch of Cowes RNLI lifeboat.
Having launched at 16:28, the lifeboat proceeded to tow the boat into the harbour and then on to the river beyond the floating bridge, where an alongside tow took it to its mooring on a pontoon off the aggregate wharf.
The lifeboat returned to station at 17:30.
