UPDATED: The National Police Air Service Helicopter from Bournemouth is conducting a search of Bembridge Harbour this morning (Friday) following a raid on a house boat moored at Selwyn Pontoon.
Plain clothed Police officers, forensic specialists and several other officers are in attendance at ‘Newclose’, a large boat moored alongside Selwyn Pontoon on Embankment Road.
Island Echo understands Police are searching for a male wanted in connection with their enquiries.
The NPAS helicopter is conducting an aerial search of Bembridge and St Helens in a bid to locate the man, who is thought to be wearing a chequered shirt.
A number of large evidence bags have been taken aboard the boat by Police, who have been present in the area since around 10:00.
UPDATE @ 11:40 – The Police helicopter has now stood down from the search, however ground units remain on the scene.
UPDATE @ 12:40 – Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed that a number of cannabis plants have been seized by officers on board the boat this morning.
One man has been arrested on suspicion of drugs offences and has been taken to Newport Police Station for questioning. A second man wanted in connection with the ongoing investigation is still outstanding.
