Police are appealing for information following a serious road traffic collision on Briddlesford Road near Newport last night (Thursday) in which a 19-year-old man remains in hospital.
As previously reported by Island Echo, a blue Citroen C1 left the carriageway and landed upside down in a field between Downend and Wootton, near the Combley Road junction.
The incident occurred between 21:00 and 21:15 in which a 19-year-old man from Sandown suffered serious injuries for which he is still receiving hospital treatment.
The 19-year-old was flown to Southampton General Hosptial and the road remained closed for some time.
Police would like to hear from anyone who was driving along Briddlesford Road at the time of the incident, or who may have seen the vehicle in the area prior to the collision.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has said:
“Did you witness this incident at all, or see anything immediately prior? Did you see any other vehicles at the location in addition to the Citroen?
“Perhaps you were driving through and caught something on Dash Cam.
“Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting 44200361329.
“Alternatively, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers 100% anonymously on 0800 555 111, or via their anonymous online form at crimestoppers-uk.org”

Perhaps Island Roads should stop surfacing the roads and spend their time installing crash barriers along our roads to stop drivers keep parking their cars off the roads.
Roads don’t cause accidents bad driving does!! We don’t need crash barriers just sensible sober drug free drivers!!!!!!!!
Perhaps people could stop being selfish idiots and drive carefully.. Oh well back to gloom reality of humans and their daily misadventures endangering everyone….
Every night I have to listen to morons racing up and down bridlesford road at full chat .I’m amazed this does not happen more often .
Useless police do nothing as usuall .
They are doing everything they can!! Appreciate what we have!!
Pity they don t get out with there speed cameras at night and not in the morning when people are going to work or taking there children to school!!
It’s not just Bridlesford Road it everywhere on the island, it’s time we had more proactive police because its every day now that something happens on the island roads.
I’ve never seen so many idiots on our roads before this year, and van drivers please calm down because there are far too many of you driving very aggressive with no regard for other drivers..
Unsure why HIDDEN mini cameras can’t be installed on many of our roads. They are as cheap as chips now. We have no need for the huge yellow film cameras of yesteryear.
Then with small wi fi cameras on many roads, the Police could sit and catch those speeding, tail gating, overtaking in dangerous locations and ‘do them’ BEFORE an accident.
IDIOT!!! The boy was coming back from work! Not a race driver simply just coming home from making a days living! Don’t judge a book by its cover you hear 19 assume he’s an idiot get your head out your a**e! Such nasty vile people commenting when they literally know nothing!
IDIOT and what speed was the young boy coming back from work doing or was it McDonald’s or kfc IDIOT
IDIOT!! You think if the boy was doing 100mph or speeding remotely over 60 (speed of the road for the islanders that can’t drive for s***) he would have been that close to the side of the road? NO he would have been a lot further into the field and the car would have rolled more than once! You don’t have to be a genius to know that! People like you shouldn’t be able to comment! This island is full of people with poles shoved up there a**** and think there s*** doesn’t stink!! I hope you don’t have an accident anytime soon! You stuck up c***!
Well said!
They do it in Ryde too. Marlborough Road early hours, I’d say they’re doing 70. Same with the wake the dead motorcycle exhaust fraternity.
You don’t need to be a weather man to know which way the wind blows.
Most likely another selfish low life, driving fast for no other reason than they can, and blew it. IF so hope it hurts for that cretin could have killed or maimed for life someone normal who drives every day without crashing.
Ban the twit anyway for five years minimum.
You haven’t even got a clue the boy is a normal person no druggy no drinking.. you lot just assume your so corrupt get your facts right before you start saying stuff.
Ashleigh get your head out your a***. This so called ‘selfish low life’ was actually on his way home from WORK!! A normal journey for him ended in disaster! If it was a 60 year old that come off the road you wouldn’t have anything to say but you hear 19year old boy and your small tiny minds automatically assume he’s some race driver and twat!! His family and friends are all going to see this whiles they are waiting for him to wake up/recover, take into consideration people around him! These comments are disgusting and by no surprise they are all comments by people that know absolutely NOTHING!! (He won’t be getting any ban because he did NOTHING wrong and was just a simple accident!) Wishing someone pain is a very ‘low life’ thing to do!
You are complete twat hope it never happens to your son, for your information it wasn’t his fault!!! Tull you no whole story keep comments to yourself
None of you even know who it is you lot take the piss saying how people drive up and down that road like racing drivers well take a fuckin think for five minutes some of us are just normal drivers and not dickheads.. think before you start commenting shit about something you have no clue over the boy is in hospital still think what the people around him are thinking you should be preying for a fellow islander that he makes it out okay.. you lot are a fuckin disgrace to our generation and the island!!!!
You hit the nail on the head there with these self opinionated wankers
People have become so ugly. The last time i read comments like this, actually turned out to be a Royal Mail driver, who tragically lost his life. To quick to judge and no consideration it respect for their families.
Speed limit is ???
60! It’s a country road but clearly you’re an islander from birth not knowing that!
60 which he did
Citroen c2 not c1
Why do nasty people comment without knowing the facts? A Citroen c1 is hardly a race car for a start. Hope the young lad makes a good recovery.
Thank you! Still some kind people out there! Easy to forget that on this island!
His friends or who here who stands behind his ’60 its ok speed limit’..
Your stupid rants about How people don’t know what really happened..
Your mate is pump up with too much testosterone.. Just because you think speed limit is 60
doesn’t mean you need to go 60.. It’s too fast obviously..
Don’t rush to your grave and don’t take other people with you morons.!
Tell that to matey that pulled out in front of him
He was obviously not concentrating or driving to fast for his capabilities ,,, both are deemed incompetent . Sorry
Your all a bunch of tossers, non of you no what happened that night!!! He is seriously injured in hospital, with life changing injuries!!! It was not his fault another car pulled out in front of him which drove off and left him injured
