Firefighters are responding to yet another fire at the derelict Ocean Hotel in Sandown – for the second time in just over 24 hours. 3 appliances from Sandown, Shanklin and Ryde are in attendance on the Esplanade and the High Street, with smoke seen issuing from the eyesore property. Hose reel jets have been primed and delivery hoses connected to hydrants. Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service is regularly called to the property as a result of malicious fires being set. This week they’ve attended on Monday, Thursday and again tonight.
UPDATE @ 22:33 – The fire – which was discovered on the right hand side of the ground fooor – is now out. Island Echo is told that the fire, fought externally, has affected 2 rooms. Fire crews are now making up and returning to station, bringing the latest incident to a close. Police have been made aware, but have not attended the incident.
