Reports of an entranceway well alight between the derelict Ocean Hotel and the former King’s House pub has led to another call out to Sandown for firefighters tonight (Tuesday).
Island Echo is told that a hallway – accessed from the High Street – appeared to be on fire, prompting a 999 call to fire control. 3 appliances from Sandown, Shanklin and Ryde have responded to the scene, although 2 of the 3 pumps have now stood down. Police have arrived on scene, indicating the fire is being treated as suspicious in nature. Tonight’s incident is the latest in a growing list of fires at the derelict Ocean Hotel, which has been the target of arsonists in recent weeks. An 18-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of arson last week but has since been released from custody as investigations continue.
