An elderly driver who crushed a mum on the school run – and then failed to stop at the scene or report the incident – has kept her licence. 77-year-old Rosalyn Carter, of High Street in Wootton, pleaded guilty to 2 offences when she appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court back in May. Now, the OAP driver has been sentenced for failing to stop at the scene of an accident and failing to report the accident. It was on the afternoon of 11th January that the collision occurred whilst a local mum was collecting her child from nursery at Wootton Primary School. Island Echo understands that Carter, travelling along Church Road in her Volkswagen Up, crashed into the door of a parked vehicle, crushing the casualty between the door and the body of the car. It’s said that Carter stopped, checked her vehicle for damage and then simply drove off. The victim ended up with her knee in a brace and on crutches after the collision. At a sentencing hearing at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court last Friday, Magistrates handed Carter a 12-month community order with 10 rehabilitation days attached. She was also handed 7 penalty points on her licence, fined £50 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a surcharge of £114.

At least give her registration number out so we can all dive for cover when she drives around doing her hit and run!
selfish old bat should have had her licence revoked permanently and sent to jail
Should be banned. If she was a 20 something would have been assumed had been drinking and would have been banned. You CAN NOT leave the scene of an accident is someone is injured. So many boomers driving around like they own the road and with the believe they can do no wrong and it’s everyone else that is a bad driver.
She kept her licence??????
I’m flabbergasted!!! She should’ve been banned from driving all together she’s dangerous! What if the child had been there? The fact she didn’t have a regard for the woman is a massive red flag l.
Posh, selfish or just bonkers!!
Is it the 1st of April? What a joke she even checks her vehicle before departure no mention as to her checking on the casualty,
Disproportionate justice due to age?
She should have lost her licence for good.
lucky nobody was killed, magistrates letting offenders off Scott free again
What a aload of crap sorry my nan crashed in to a lamp post no one was hurt or anyother vehicle involved yet she had her licence suspended for 8 months made to take a course in driver awareness and got points and fine yet this woman has caused a injury to someone and fled the scene and it was around a school where children are congregate BS woman should have lost licence full stop
Makes me wonder what influence she had to these magistrates. Absolutely disgusting that your nans punishment was worse than this ladies. Maybe lamposts are more important than humans ??
I expect the mum was parked on the double yellow lines or the yellow chevrons outside the school not giving a monkeys about the highway code. I wonder if mum got a fine for parking outside the school?
I would crush any vehicle caught parking on
Double yellow lines or Pavements.
There are so many stupid inconsiderate B’stards on this
island who think they can do what they want.
Now with Labour in control, hopefully they will bring in
stricter motoring rules.
The island needs Sadiq Khan running the islands road network
that would be a shake up.
Heavy Fines are needed to stop the Muppets.
You’ve obviously got issues with women in general and have also obviously never had to pick up a child or a disabled person in busy times.
Nobody has said anything about the injured woman but you naturally assume she’s in the wrong because she’s a mum!?! Regardless of the fact the old lady almost killed her!? She’s probably pissed then there you go.., too many old people drive terribly and need updating on road safety. A few sherries in the morning isn’t acceptable!!!
What the…. She kept her licence… HOW?? Bring in over 70 driver safety testing please.
7 penalty points and no ban? Must be friends with the magistrate.
Why was her licence not taken away? What does it take for her to kill somebody next time?
She should not be driving she should have surrendered her license herself she’s 77 needs to start taking the bus as she definitely cannot drive. Selfish beyond belief hope she’s pleased with herself the poor lady she caused the injuries to the car she drive into. As for the courts disgusting you allowed her to continue to drive and the fines are a joke?
Won’t be a problem when Labour brings in
20mph speeding rules on this lawless Island.
That will finally put a STOP to Numpty’s
Speeding on our Island Roads.
A ULEZ charge will also help the Island reduce
pollution and do their bit for the climate.
Keir Starmer knows that by 2030 the plan is
NET ZERO.
Think climate
Oh dear I bet you’re one of the “chemtrail” numpties hahaha
What a totally ridiculous thing to say absolutely stupid comment
I think a lot of you owe Kev an apology.
if this was a 17 y/o would be more than 7 points and a mickey mouse fine.
absolute joke
Should have had her licence revoked
OMG, no loss of license or having to take a re test, and still driving around. Beware everyone.
And the court didn’t revoke her license ? Another accident waiting to happen now….
Sorry, but just WHY was she allowed to keep her licence?
So many laws broken but still allowed to drive!
What a effing joke. This poor excuse of a human should either have her license revoked or the very least take her driving test again.
I notice that she was not charged with a driving offence. Could it be that she struck a car door that was suddenly opened in her path? That might explain the sentence.
It seems very odd that there’s no explanation from the driver as to why this happened? Surely the court asked her to explain herself?
Dogs on the beaches are not a problem, people are the problem. The amount of filth they leave behind after visiting our beaches is disgusting and ranges from single use barbecues to broken glass food debris waste and packaging to used disposable nappies. Concentrate on fining them using existing laws.
And this is relevant to a hit & run accident?
The 77year old was not to blame for the accident. The other woman opened her car door in the path of the on coming vehicle. Nothing wrong with the woman’s driving. Her offence was not stopping after the accident which of course is legally wrong and also morally wrong.
This is disappointing!! A young driver would have lost there licence. But because the coffin dodger knows the bench they get away with a giggle about the incident and off on your merry way!!
I can’t wait to be old and get away with anything I want !!!!
Hopefully that will never happen…
What about the old person that failed to stop in Sandown after hitting many parked cars a pedestrian and a tree? That story went very quiet
Old women are the most selfish people out of all age groups. You just have to go into a supermarket and find them just standing in the isle whinging and blocking everybody
Lawless in Tory Town. That side of the island is now the dark side.
