UPDATED: The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are attending a serious property fire in Newport this morning (Thursday).
Crews were called to Furrlongs on Pan estate at just before 05:30 following reports of a fire at a bungalow opposite the junction with Home Meade.
Appliances from Newport, Ryde and East Cowes are on scene alongside the Incident Command Unit.
The road has been closed in both directions by Police.
UPDATE @ 07:10 – The roof of the property has been severely damaged in the blaze, which also appears to have gutted the inside of the home.
Unusually, a blue sheet has been erected covering the front door of the property.
Police have put cordons in place in the area and hard road closures have been established by Island Roads, indicating the road will remain closed for sometime.
UPDATE @ 07:55 – Sadly, the fire has claimed the life of at least 1 person.
The area is to remain cordoned off for sometime as investigations into the cause of the blaze get underway.
