Islanders are being encouraged to get involved in a new basketball league that has been established on the Isle of Wight.
The Island has lacked a competitive basketball league for some years now, but with the creation of the new ‘Little 3 league’ it is hoped that more people will be encouraged to take up the sport. Organisers are also aiming to bring previous players back into the game.
The Little 3 League is a 3-on-3 basketball competition which promotes more togetherness as a basketball community. It allows people to watch, help with statistics and officiate, as well as play if they wish.
Matches are currently held at Cowes Enterprise College, Cowes on Thursday evenings from 20:30. In addition to this, coaching sessions are held from 18:30 on Thursday for primary school children and from 19:30 for secondary school children.
There are currently 5 teams with another ‘ghost’ team that allows people to turn up and play as a ‘free agent’. This allows people to try it and see if they would like to get into the sport. Each team has got their own team colours with t-shirts provided by YTees designs, and paid for and sponsored by PC Consultants. This sponsorship has been of great help as it gives the teams an identity.
Anyone interested in joining the league can email [email protected]. There is also a Facebook group established at https://www.facebook.com/groups/209199795805760/.
