MOTORCYCLIST AIRLIFTED AFTER SMASH WITH CAR AT COMPTON

A motorcyclist has been airlifted to Southampton General Hospital with serious injuries after ending up in a ditch having collided with a car at Compton this afternoon (Wednesday). Emergency services – including the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance – were called to the entrance to Hanover Point car park on Military Road at just before 12:55, as first reported by Island Echo. It’s understood that a white Suzuki Hornet motorcycle collided with the rear quarter of a black Toyota Aygo as the car exited the car park, throwing the motorcyclist off their vehicle and into a ditch at the side of the carriageway. The extent of the injuries sustained by the rider –  a man in his 30s – are such that flying medics have airlifted the casualty directly to the Major Trauma Centre in Southampton. Police have cordoned off the area as investigations into the circumstances of the crash get underway, with an update from doctors anticipated. 1 fire appliance from Freshwater was mobilised to the scene in the interest of scene safety due to debris and spillage on the carriageway. Island Roads is now on scene conducting further debris clearance. Military Road is closed in both directions – although access to Compton Car Park is still possible from the east.
