Last weekend Isle of Wight Road Runners Alice Rayner and Ross Wilkes took part in marathons some 5,191 miles apart, in Bulgaria and Chicago respectively.
Travelling to the Bulgarian capital of Sofia, Alice completed the Wizz Air Sofia Marathon is a time of 4hours 22minutes.
Elsewhere in the US state of Illinois, Ross finished the race in an impressive 3hours 28minutes, a race in which Kenya’s Ruth Chepngetich broke the women’s marathon world record.
With over 50,000 entrants taking part, Ross finished in a respectable 11,036th.
Just a week earlier – over 26 Isle of Wight Road Runners – took part in the 68th edition of the Isle of Wight Marathon.
For the Ladies – Hayley Baxter (3.50.34), Zoe Sherwin (3.54.22 ) & Sarah Ward (4.09.02) For the Men – Josh Price (2.49.08) , Ashley Crabbe ( 3.20.50 ) & Nick Kenney (3.31.58). The Road Runners came home with both team golds.
On the mainland at the Solent Half Marathon, Beth Howarth shone with a superb run of 1.23.27, a 5 minute PB and the honour of being 1st Lady Home.
This weekend runners will take part in the Great South Run in Portsmouth. Island Echo wishes anyone taking part on Sunday, the best of luck.
