MAN IN CUSTODY AFTER POLICE OFFICERS ASSAULTED DURING EAST COWES ARREST

A 40-year-old Newport man remains in custody after allegedly smashing a window and assaulting Police officers in East Cowes last night (Friday). Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary was called at 22:11 to a report of criminal damage at an address on Vectis Road. It was reported that a window had been damaged at the property. Officers attended the scene and a man was detained. During the arrest, 2 officers were assaulted. A 40-year-old man from Newport was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and 2 counts of assault by beating of an emergency worker. He remains in custody at Newport Police Station whilst enquiries continue.
