What is becoming of this once safe island.
We no longer have many beat officers.
The argument that there is not enough funding is misplaced
More beat officers would mean less opportunistic crime. Money would be saved on the legal fees, court costs , NHS costs and custodial costs and life would be more pleasant in our communities.
Bring back best coppers.
Get real it has never been safe
What is becoming is our prisons are now so filled with criminals from third world countries, that courts can never again give meaningful sentences for criminals to effectively deter them.
Vote Reform to slow the endless damage
Oh FFS do your research prisons are full and overfull in most cases but with “our own wrong doers”!If reform.are still trying to peddle their racist views thru out of date data “immigrants firm at anyone time 5/8%if the population,,”…with losers like you for support Reform are doomed fortunately!.
All I know is we have more different people over here than we want
I must have missed the piece where it said he wasn’t an Islander?huge assumption there Sue!,your genetics scream made in Isle of Wight by virtue of huge assumption gene in the DNA,how about thoughts for the victim?no…still she could be a holidaymaker is that the different sort of people you refer to?,.
I’m betting £100 it was a white guy
Different in what way Sue?
Quite a bizarre comment given the male is from Ryde…but I look forward to your reply.
doesn’t mean anything joris – probably turned up in ryde and is now reported as being from ryde
Not ‘different’ people! God, we can’t have that
Oh for goodness sake. He wasn’t a stranger who crawled in through the bedroom window. They knew each other. Stop being so dramatic.
I didn’t know him thanks
it is wrong that a man has had his liberty removed against his will on the say so of a woman. Unless there is categorical proof of the crime, then the man is innocent until proven guilty and should not be in a cell.
I sincerely hope that there is proof, otherwise the police have assumed guilt by imprisoning this man in a locked room against his will and against his human right to freedom of movement and freedom of choice.
Utter twat!
So Jesse, if someone makes up lies about you and the police drag you into a van and throw you into cell, without any proof, you will be OK with that…now whose the utter twat
“On the say so of a woman”? Who else is going to report a rape against a woman?
do you happen to be a 45 year old male from ryde
so many votes down jay – it woud seem that so many people are in favour of having their own liberty removed on the say so of someone else.
wonder how all those voting down, would feel if the police just turned up at their addresses, handcuffed them and stuck them in a cell, because someone said something about them, without evidence to back it up. Bet they wouldn’t like it.
I would be happy that they were doing their job!!!!
If he’s done nothing wrong then he’s nothing to worry about has he!!
If there was proof he would be charged already, police have 24 hours to hold him to gather evidence, that is the law, you talk shite
No man should be in a cell without proof…the police should obtain proof then arrest, otherwise they are depriving a man of his freedom on someone’s word only….that is wrong
Okay, and if he is then to be found guilty, with evidence, what if the monster was to offend again whilst police were chasing evidence? If he’s done nothing wrong, he has nothing to worry about. Just cooperate!
Let’s see if u still feel the same whilst locked in a cell because someone made up something about you….the police should not even speak to this man without evidence to back up this claim
Depriving someone of their freedom is used as punishment and causes distress and suffering…it should only be used against guilty people.
Holding someone for 24 hours is punishment as deprivation of liberty has been used without proof of culpability.
This man should be free unless proof is offered up, as he is innocent until proven guilty
shouldn’t even be held for 24 hours – that is deprivation of liberty without proof and wrong.
this man could be innocent and will have had 24 hours of his life forciby taken from him, by locking him up – any woman making up lies should be automaticaly jailed for ten years
Don’t comment on what you don’t know
right to an opinion, right to a view, right to freedom of speech.
then again, you lefty, socialists only want freedom of speech when it suits your narrative and agenda.
What’s changed our lovely island??
Perhaps that rape is no longer regarded as something wonen should have to put up with, so there’s more public awareness of it.
Partly due to our Council offering homes here to undesirables from the mainland.
Don’t talk such utter cobblers.
Maybe your not from the isle of wight so cobblers stright back at you
You definitely don’t come from the isle of wight so cobblers back too you
Absolutely…if full of them in that oyo hotel.
It’s become a dumping ground for all the dross no one else wants. Why do you think they want to keep builing houses? It’s to put all the dross in.
Most normal people would put YOU in the dross category for all of the semi-literate gibberish you keep posting.
Yet they charge 50p to use toilets in Sandown.
Sandown is the Islands Bronx.
A person is NEVER named anyway when arrested on SUSPiCION of a criminal act. Once the questioning of the suspect is complete, and the CPR say there is enough evidence, the suspect will be CHARGED with said offence and NAMED at this point. This will be before the trial.
He is guilty as it was me he attacked and I have the bruises to show it
yeah right roony – of course you naturally turn up on a public newsboard to try to smear the blokes reputation – trying to further the case are we – tut tut, this sort of public accusation on a public board, can get you into a lot of trouble yourself.
Sandown needs disinfecting it’s rancid. It used to be a nice seaside town now it’s the unwashed armpit of the Island.
Most of the rock is unwashed armpit
What about the poor guy that just spent 17 years in prison after a false conviction?
I’m not making a false accusation
yeah right rooney – im calling BS on you – not sure what is worse – someone claiming to know all about it and then publicly bragging, or your demands that people don’t comment, whilst commenting yourself.
I see the posts about this wrongful removal of a mans liberty without proof have been removed -where are they – this is supposed to be an impartial site
no man should ever be imprisoned against his will based on the say so of someone else – no proof, no arrest and no denial of liberty -not even for 24 hours
