MALE IN CUSTODY AFTER WOMAN SUFFERS LEG INJURY DURING RYDE FLAT ASSAULT

A 57-year-old man is in custody after allegedly attempting to cause grievous bodily harm to a woman at a flat in Ryde last night (Thursday). Police were called to reports of a disturbance at an address on Corbett Road in Haylands at just before 18:00. Multiple officers were deployed alongside an ambulance, a critical care paramedic and an operational commander from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service. Emergency services arrived on the scene to find a woman in her 40s had been assaulted, suffering a minor injury to her leg. A short while later a suspect was located on nearby Bettesworth Road. The 57-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm. He remains in custody at Newport Police Station this morning.
