
All 3 Isle of Wight triathlon clubs took part in the Wight Tri Spring Triathlon – a 600m pool swim, a 24.3km undulating cycle, starting from Freshwater, followed by a 5km run loop around the village.
1st to finish was Vectis Academy member, Jake Brougham in his 1st-ever triathlon. Jake had a solid swim to exit the pool in 11.26, having swum 50m over distance, then posted the 2nd fastest bike split (42.13) and the fastest run of 18.43 to finish in 1hr 14 mins 58secs, just 8 seconds ahead of his Vectis Academy team member Mark Longford. Mark was out the swim in 10.13 and, with the fastest bike split of 41.56, he was holding first place into the run. However, even with a super run of 19.44, he could not hold off his teammate and finished in 1.15.06 to take 2nd place.
3rd male was IOW Triathlon Club member Dan Morgan who was having a ‘father and son competition’ with his son Henry. Dan won this time, finishing in 1.19.48 with Henry in 5th place overall in 1.22.08.
1st female was Wight Tri member, Jan Fletcher with another super performance to take her second top podium spot in 2 weeks. Jan posted a PB swim time of 10.06 for the 600m swim and with a swift 47.33 for the cycle and 21.14 for the run, she finished in 1.22.37 to take 6th place overall and 1st female spot. Delphine Lever, also of Wight Tri, took the 2nd female spot finishing in 1.49.27.
Junior IOW Triathlon Club triathlete, Ben Van Der Helstraete, posted the fastest swim time of 7 mins 36s and finished in 7th position overall in 1.23.03.
