Isle of Wight competitors won a total of 9 medals on Day 3 of the NatWest Island Games in Guernsey.
Shooting was the Isle of Wight’s most successful event, with our competitors taking 4 silver medals and 1 bronze.
Matthew Reed won silver in the ISSF 50m free pistol open event, then teamed up with Perron Phipps, to gain a 2nd silver in the 50m free pistol team open event. Shelley Sprack added 2 silvers to the 1 she won yesterday, in the ISSF 25m Standard Pistol individual and team events. Her partner in the team event was Tara Leighton-Dyson. Guy Moss took bronze in the 10m air rifle.
The Isle of Wight swimming team have also been making a splash at the Island Games, picking up a silver and bronze. Abi Lacey took silver in the Women’s 200m Individual Medley, whilst Grace Poynter gained a bronze medal in the Women’s 200m Breaststroke.

In athletics, the Isle of Wight’s Dan Eckersley took silver in the 3,000m Steeplechase, 0.2 seconds behind Saaremaa Olympian Kaur Kivistik.
In table tennis, the Isle of Wight won bronze in the team competition. The Isle of Wight table tennis team are Pat Thorley, Elaine Mills, Temeesha Hobbs, Anna Joyce; George Downing, Scott Lawson, Hugh Idle and Danny Burns.
In football, the Isle of Wight’s men’s side have qualified for the semi-finals by beating hosts and favourites Guernsey 1-2 to top Group 1. The footballers will play Jersey in the semi-final on Thursday evening with an 18:30 kick off.

Sadly, the women’s football team have been eliminated from the tournament after losing 3-2 to the Spanish island of Menorca. The women will play Aland on Thursday to decide 7th and 8th placing.
The Isle of Wight’s men’s basketball side were unfortunately beaten by a narrow 6-point margin by Ynys Mon, going down by 69-63.
