A walker who sustained an injury in a remote spot high upon Chillerton Down was rescued by Coastguards and paramedics earlier this evening (Friday). The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service was alerted to the casualty’s plight at around 19:00, with an ambulance crew mobilised to the village of Chillerton. Having located the casualty some distance onto Chillerton Down, near Tolt Copse, the assistance of HM Coastguard was requested to stretcher the casualty to the main road. For their second rescue of the day, Coastguard Rescue Officers from Ventnor and The Needles came together to help in evacuating the injured individual across uneven terrain – as the light rapidly faded. The walker has since been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital, Newport for further assessment and treatment.
Earlier today, Ventnor and The Needles Coastguard Rescue Teams went to the aid of another individual following an incident on the rocks at Colwell Bay The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service requested support from HM Coastguard in moving a casualty from an unstable surface. The casualty was stretchered from the rocks to the awaiting ambulance for onward conveyance to St Mary’s Hospital.
