A cannabis farm worth an estimated £100,000 has been discovered in a warehouse in Newport, with 2 males arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the production of Class B drugs.
6 Police vehicles descended on the warehouse unit at Little London shortly before 17:00 yesterday afternoon (Wednesday).
Inside the property, officers discovered no less than 100 cannabis plants – each thought to have a street value of £1,000.
The commercial premises and a Vauxhall Astra car were cordoned off by Police, with a scene guard having remained in place overnight and throughout this morning.
Forensics are expected to arrive in Newport today ahead of the cannabis plants being removed from the building.
Hampshire Constabulary has confirmed that 2 men – a 41-year-old man and a 46-year-old man – have been arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the production of Class B drugs. The 41-year-old has also been arrested on suspicion of possession of a knife.
Inspector Alison Attwood, from the High Harm Team, has said:
“This is another great piece of work by high harm officers who are developing intelligence daily, and taking action to target drug suppliers.
“Their efforts behind the scenes also led to the arrests of two men in Portsmouth this week, who have since been charged with drugs supply offences and were due to appear in court today.
“We often see comments from people criticising police seizure of cannabis. We can tell you – it is not ‘just a plant’. The drugs trade causes immeasurable harm to communities. Children are exploited and drawn into this dirty business, which is often linked to serious crime including offences involving knives and weapons.
“Our job as a High Harm Team is to put a stop to that. We will disrupt supply lines, seize drugs and weapons, bring offenders to justice and ultimately keep the public safer from the knock-on effects of drug dealing in our community.”
The duo remain in custody at this time.
UPDATE @ 16:40 – It has been confirmed that 2 men have been released under investigation.
Enquiries continue.

Well done, guys. Great work again.
Well done police, arrested two gardeners for growing a natural plant… it will be the garden centres next
It is an illegaL plant and due to man’s greed, causes an awful lot of harm.
God gave us plants to use..its a plant not a drug.. that our government makes plenty of money from.
They could be invited to gardeners question time…
Y taken so long?, Could smell it from Riverside. Probably could from police station even. We need more police/PCSOs on street walking around, never see them these days and always dealing with aftermath of crime instead of prevention.
Agree, just walked past there, the smell is a sure giveaway, it was so strong I had to go past a second time, just to make sure I didn’t imagine it.
Sure it wasn’t just to have a free ‘trip’ ?
Plod probably never received there cut…..?
Please come back and get in your cage
Gathering evidence, I assume.
Quite likely known about it for some time and have been watching the comings and goings.
Steaming in somewhere on the first whiff of pot may catch a caretaker or two but won’t catch the bigger fish who will just set up somewhere else.
Fantastic news guys , very well done xx
what a shame. looks like it would have been a nice smoke!
That’s gonna push the prices up!
But there is much bigger 1 on island but all gets sent to where its legal
Where
Time to legalise it and give the pubs the licences to sell it. That way the pubs are saved and these sorts of criminal behaviour is stamped out. I don’t smoke and I am not fond of the smell. But as the US shows, prohibition does not work. All it does is make the drug stronger and puts the money into the pockets of criminals.
I would totally agree with you if it wasn’t for the fact that these gang spend millions making the bush stronger every year or so. If I was to smoke one now, after ‘partaking’ 40 years ago, the strength would probably put me in a coma! Whilst the dealers are offering a longer, stronger smoke every few months people will always prefer that type. I have no issue with smokers, but making it ‘legal’ will only increase the price (Tax, VAT, shop, rents, council tax) which will always leave the option of cheaper stronger bud as the only real option for many of todays users. There may be an answer, but perhaps education rather than legalisation?
Unknown how legalizing this drug, will save pubs?? There is no smoking in pubs. I have no idea why they make it stink so bad, can smell it all over the place. Years ago, ‘ homegrown’ did not stink like a skunk.. or like foxes.. I do not partake and never will. I have neighbours that smoke it and it stinks out the neighbourhood. Claims medical needs… I have never heard of a GP giving out prescriptions for an ounce of skunk weed… !!!
Perfectly legal to become highly addicted to alcohol, tobacco, heroin derivative painkillers and caffeine however….
Busted. Great work once again by our Police force. Drugs ruin lives and communities.
The ignorant in society say ‘ it’s just a bit of weed’.
The facts are, it’s illegal, it damages peoples mental health who smoke it in large quantities. Some people can’t afford to have their brain cells damaged!
Actually it does the opposite it helps re grow grey matter in the brain . Please educate yourself before making silly assumptions , and is being used for mental health
You quite obviously smoke large quantities of it!!!!!!!
As for using it for Mental Health, yes, but with the THC removed. Cannabis can be used very successfully for many medicinal purposes but it has been modified as I said, no THC. I use CBD Oil and I find it very good.
And no disgusting smell !!
For a name like Sunshine its not very bright to assume again and point fingers , perhaps Dimlight would be more suitable for a user name
What a div..
You think so, do you? You really have no idea of the destruction to mental health that this crap causes.
IQ of 75 by any chance?
That statement alone is proof that it does quite the reverse. Bless you and the invisible people who are your friends.
oh yes and smoking it is really good for peoples lungs…. I think you need a bit of educating.. plus what about those that have to walk through your cloud of smoke..?? What about their health.. ?? ignorant selfishness.
jeez….get a life mate.
I think you will find alcohol consumed in large quantities damages people’s mental and physical health and ruins people’s lives.
Plus the ‘ sellers’ often carry weapons of some sort…
No the facts are it’s not a drug but the planets oldest and most effective medicinal herbs and we have cannabinoid receptors in our bodies from when our ancestors fed livestock with hemp, from where Cannabis derives .It is a wonderful plant with vast potentials for strong fibres (10 times stronger than cotton) and much more. The stuff we see here is ‘skunk’ which has been over modified for bigger profits and can be threatening to developing brains. There should be controlled versions available at much weaker strengths which would eliminate the criminal elements to some degree, but big-corpa fearsthis plant as it can threaten business cartels.Fact
Weird that the name of the establishment is defocused but iow tyres sign isn’t, doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out where it is
I think it’s terrible!
Legalise it. Prohibition doesn’t work, All it does is does is turn it in a money maker for criminals. Exposing young people to unsavoury dealers peddling more than just a smoke and putting them at greater risk of violent incidents.
If it was legal it probably wouldn’t be so cool and uptake amongst the young would decrease. This is the evidence of behaviour patterns in countries that are trying a different approach.
In London, gangs attract young people with lavish lifestyles funded by drugs. These young see the cars and cash and see options of working hard for little return or joining gangs for easy rewards.
Sunshine is spot on. During lock down on the Wednesday night Clapping to support our NHS, we all stood in amazement at the complete arrogance of a guy purchasing his hit. Picture the scene. All respectable members of community were outside of their homes clapping & showing gratitude to the NHS. The junkies of the neighbourhood were nowhere to be seen. Except one. Who to all our amazement, walked up the street to a dealers house, took an envelope from his pocket, posted through her door & collected his stash from behind the house. All in full view of everyone out clapping. I’d say it effects peoples mental health in every way!!!!
I’m looking for a unit to rent, once you cleared it, give me a call
