A double decker bus has sustained significant front end damage as a result of a head-on crash with a car on the main road between Wroxall and Ventnor this morning (Thursday). Police, fire and ambulance crews are all on scene at Clarence Road, where a car – thought to be a Ford Focus ST – has come across the carriageway and into the path of a Southern Vectis Route 3 bus. As a result, the car has been flung off the road and into a hedge. The bus has seen front end damage, but has remained upright and on the correct side of the road. The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has been scrambled from Thruxton with flying medics now tending to the injured at the roadside. 
The extent of the injuries sustained is currently unclear, but it’s understood the bus driver – in a vulnerable position – has walked away from the wreckage. The crash occurred at around 00:05. Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service currently has 3 appliances from Sandown, Shanklin and Newport in attendance with the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service mobilising 2 ambulance crews, a critical care paramedic and an operational commander. Police have closed the road in both directions – local diversion via Rew Lane for light traffic only. 
UPDATE @ 02:15 – The air ambulance has lifted from the scene and is flying a seriously injured casualty directly to Southampton General Hospital. Further details on the extent of the injuries sustained is expected from Police.

Yesterday Wednesday around 3pm, I was travelling from whitely bank heading towards Shanklin, when a double decker started veering to my side of the road. I needed to swerve a little in order to avoid a collision, my speed was 40 mph, however, that bus was travelling much fast than 40…My heart was racing because it was a very close thing…
Then report it to southern vectis as all busses have front mounted CCTV if you know what time it was and what part of road it happened on it can be looked into
Buses, Taxis and all motorists seem to drive erratically
on the island.
Strict Speeding rules need to be put in place like on the
Mainland.
The island lacks Speed Camera’s / Anpr
A bus is at least 8 ft wide. In some places on this island the road is only just over 13ft wide.If you see bus stops on a narrow road, best to be careful. It doesn’t excuse too fast driving by anyone.
Bus driver here, I’ve driven on the mainland in the country and in London, never in my driving career have I seen such atrocious driving by the bus drivers on the island. Poor road positioning, driving at speed, tailgating, also eating whilst driving!
