It’s good news for residents of Ventnor following the announcement that the works on Newport Road/The Graben are set to be completed well ahead of schedule. As previously reported by Island Echo, the closure was only enforced on Monday this week (24th June) with work anticipated to take at least 11 days. The closure has resulted in lengthy diversions for those heading into the South Wight town, with all traffic having to leave Ventnor via Whitwell – where traffic disruption was seen on Monday and Tuesday. It is now understood however, that works to repair the sewer at the geological site have progressed a lot faster than expected with the road set to open over the weekend following a period of re-surfacing works. A full closure is to remain in place until around 17:00 on Saturday (29th June). Access into and out of Ventnor has been made arduous ever since the closure of Leeson Road following a major landslip back in December 2023.

Well done, let’s now get the Shanklin to Ventnor
route sorted out!.
Obviously Island Roads not involved in this repair then lol
That’s how they work. They set very low expectations, then exclaim: ” look at us, aren’t we wonderful for finishing so early!” Don’t fall for it.
They finished earlier than expected so they can gain access to the
Seafront to park up and chill.
Lol
Apparently to close again for a fortnight in 2 weeks for re surfacing.
It is still dangerous for buses to go down due the poor configuration not beening addressed. Why Isle roads did not resurface during the ideal, practical period of the road closure?
I can only conclude Isle Road Management are completely incompetent and should be removed from their post . There are a number of Road closures that with little commonsense
Could be open . Bath Rd-folk lift digger for10 minutes job done . South Grove Rd just remove the grills and signs left by Isle rds .The road is a thousand time safer then the Gabben which as been inspected and pasted.
