Isle of Wight archer Summer Chambers has enjoyed an unforgettable weekend, securing Gold at the Junior Archery Series in Wallingford and retaining her title at the Mushroom Shoot in the New Forest.
On Saturday, 14-year-old Summer lined up at the Junior Archery Series Stage 5 in Wallingford. After finishing 3rd in the morning qualification round, she battled her way through the afternoon head-to-head matches to reach the final against Ava Snell.
The contest came down to the tightest of finishes – a single arrow shoot-off for gold. Under immense pressure, Summer stepped up first and fired her arrow dead into the centre of the target, edging out her rival’s near-perfect shot to take the U15 gold medal.
Less than 24 hours later, Summer was back on the shooting line at the Sway Bowmen Mushroom Shoot in the New Forest – one of her favourite competitions. Shooting a Western 50 round, she scored an impressive 802 points, earning her the title of Junior Archer Supreme for the second year running.
To round off an extraordinary few days, Summer also remains firmly at the top of the Southern Counties Archery Youth Tour rankings for her age group – cementing her reputation as one of the country’s brightest young archery talents.
Speaking after her victories, Summer said:
“It was the most intense situation possible, but that one arrow made all the difference. Coming away with a gold medal and Junior Archer Supreme in the same weekend is just incredible.”
