It was another stunning five days at Glorious Goodwood this year, enjoyed by many horse racing fans who made the short trip across from the Isle of Wight. Those fortunate to be there will have seen some future stars of the sport. Here is a look at some of the big race targets for the winners of the major races at the meeting.

Kyprios continued his dominance of the stayers’ division this season with victory in the Goodwood Cup. The Irish horse won the day one feature for the second time in his career. He will now head to British Champions Day at Ascot where he is the 11/10 favourite for those placing horse racing bets on the race. As the horse racing results show, Aidan O’Brien’s runner is unbeaten in four starts in 2024. He landed the Vintage Crop Stakes, Levmoss Stakes and Ascot Gold Cup before blowing his rivals away at the Sussex-based venue in the Goodwood Cup. With 12 victories from 16 starts in his career, Kyprios has established himself as one of the best stayers in history. The Long Distance Cup could be the last appearance in his glittering career.

After winning a hot renewal of the Nassau Stakes at Glorious Goodwood, the door has been opened to many leading middle distance races for Opera Singer this season, including the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp in Paris. The Arc may not have even been considered for the filly at the start of the season by her connections, however, she has shown she has the speed and stamina to do well in the French race. She stayed on strongly at the end of her 1m2f contest at Goodwood to win the second Group One of her career. Opera Singer knows all about success on Arc weekend. She won the Prix Marcel Boussac at the meeting in 2023, prevailing by five lengths. With multiple Ballydoyle runners likely in this year’s Longchamp race, jockey Ryan Moore could have a tough decision to make over which horse to ride.
Big Evs Back to His Best in King George Sprint
The sprint division in the UK and Ireland has been dominated by Big Evs over the last 12 months, as Mick Appleby’s runner has won big races at Ascot, Doncaster, Goodwood and York. His latest success came in the King George Qatar Stakes where he beat Australian superstar mare Asfoora in one of the races of the week at the meeting. It was a big success for Big Evs as he suffered his first defeat since August 2023 when he finished third in the King Charles III Stakes at the 2024 Royal Ascot Meeting. The Breeders’ Cup winner was back to his best at Glorious Goodwood. Appleby will be considering a range of options in the UK, Ireland, France and the USA for his sprinter. The most likely next assignment will be the Nunthorpe Stakes at York. The 2024 Flat season ends on the 19th of October on British Champions Day. All three of the above Glorious Goodwood winners are likely to be in contention to be crowned Horse of the Year for 2024.
