Firefighters have prevented a garden fire from taking hold of a terraced row of properties in East Cowes this evening (Monday). 3 fire appliances from Newport and Ryde are on scene at Vectis Road, where a hedge fire has spread to destroy most of a rear garden. Although the fire threatened a family home, quick actions by Newport’s wholetime crew have prevented the blaze from spreading further. The incident began at around 18:10.
Heat damage has been caused to the back door of the neighbouring property though. At its height black plumes of smoke could be seen from the other side of the River Medina. Hose reel jets are being used to dampen down the area with the fire now under control. A thermal imaging camera is also being utilised to check for any hotspots.
