Thursday night dinner left unattended in a Ryde kitchen led to a call out for firefighters from Ryde, Sandown and Newport this evening. 3 appliances – 2 retained crews and 1 wholetime crew – were mobilised to an address on St John’s Avenue at just before 19:30. Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service had been alerted to a kitchen fire within a residential property. Within just a few minutes of the alert firefighters from nearby Ryde Fire Station were on scene, finding the fire out on arrival. Crews from Sandown and Newport were stood down en-route as a result with the stop message relayed back within just 11 minutes of mobilisation. Positive pressure ventilation was utilised to clear fumes from the property. Island Echo understands an ambulance has since attended St John’s Avenue.
