A fisherman was airlifted from the foot of Culver Cliff during the early hours of this morning (Sunday) after falling during a fishing competition.
Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team, Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team and paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service were called to the incident at 03:30 following reports of a male having fallen, injuring himself.
After walking out at low tide to the end of the cliff via Yaverland Beach, Coastguard officers decided that due to the terrain the casualty needed to be airlifted from the scene.
Coastguard Rescue 104 helicopter from Lee-on-Solent was tasked to winch the male from Culver Cliff to St Mary’s Hospital, Newport.
The gentleman, who was participating in an all-night fishing competition, is receiving treatment in hospital today for a suspected broken pelvis.
