Firefighters tackled a vehicle fire in the heart of Ryde earlier this afternoon (Wednesday). The vehicle – a BMW 1-series – was parked on George Street when it suddenly caught fire at around 13:30. A single fire crew from Ryde used hose reel jets to extinguish the blaze before dampening down the charred engine bay. The road was blocked for a time whilst firefighters worked to make sure the fire was completely extinguished. All emergency service personnel stood down from the incident at around 14:30.

For god sake all these EV’s catching fire. What, not an EV??? What, we have never had an EV fire on the island???? But my mate down the pub said they are all exploding all the time. I don’t get it, how can they be all exploding yet at the same time not a single EV fire on the island. Almost like my mate down the pub knows nothing and is watching too much GBNews and just repeats all their lies.
oh look Fred has escaped from the funny farm again, sad old man
It does happen. 40 years ago I was returning from Sandown after picking up my daughter. When nearly home in Ryde, the engine compartment errupted in flames and smoke. Luckily there was a phonebox nearby (no mobile phones then) and the fire brigade arrived but too late to extinguish the fire. However, that did not stop them cutting the battery leads and anything else they could find.
Yep.
It’s hilarious, the rate of internal combustion engine car fires is 20x that of EVs.
Just waiting for a numpty to whinge that there are fewer EVs on the road and have to explain to them in simple terms what “rate” means.
Looks like it has an exhaust pipe to me
Bet you’re mate down pub also believes EDL and voted reform!.
Another gimp
No fred, if it was an EV on fire it would still be on fire, exploding all over the place, we all no your the loser that’s spent all his cash on his wanky ev that’s worthless now, and spout all this rubbish to try and make you feel a bit better about your poor choices. Don’t be a fred readers!
“we all no your the loser”?!?
And again.
In English.
Apologies if it’s not your first language.
You have been quite, thought you had gone to Pyongyang.
Total gimp u are
That’s the trouble with internal combustion engines they easily catch fire. I guess the clue is in the name combustion. Can’t wait until 2030
