A former Island man – serving a lengthy stint in prison – has been sentenced following an incident that erupted after his partner noticed he had liked a TikTok video of 2 women dancing in bikinis. Paul Bishton, 32, of HMP Portland, appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court yesterday (6th August), charged with criminal damage, assault by beating of an emergency worker and possession of a controlled drug of class-A. Liz Miller, prosecuting, told the court that on the 26th January, Police were called to a domestic incident on Lower Furlongs in Brading. Bishton had been attempting to get into a property on the road and had kicked the door so much that the door had come off its hinges. Having arrested Bishton, Police searched him and a small packet of white powder – which turned out to be cocaine – was found. When being placed into the back of a Police van, Bishton punched an officer with closed fists causing pain to the officers face. The 32-year-old was sentenced to 5 years in prison earlier this year for offences of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. His earliest release date is 10th January 2027. Defending Bishton, Oscar Vincent told the court that his client had been out with his partner at the time when an argument arose after she noticed that Bishton had liked a video of 2 girls dancing in bikinis on TikTok. He also added that the cocaine seized was a small amount, consistent with personal use. For the offence of assault by beating of an emergency worker, Bishton was handed a £200 fine and ordered to pay compensation of £50. For the offence of criminal damage he was ordered to pay compensation of £500.
