Firefighters from Ryde and Newport have responded to a retirement housing complex in Binstead this evening (Friday). 4 appliances – 2 from Ryde and 2 from Newport – and 2 fire officers were mobilised to The Farriers on Pitts Lane at just gone 21:00. It has been confirmed that the call out was a false alarm, with no action taken by the 22 responding firefighters. It’s not the first time that fire crews have been called to the housing complex on the main Ryde to Newport road. Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has now stood down all resources.
