EARLY HOURS HAVENSTREET CRASH LEAVES MOTORCYCLIST IN A SERIOUS CONDITION

A motorcyclist is in a serious condition in hospital following a crash on the outskirts of Ryde during the early hours of this morning (Monday). Police were called to the junction of Stroudwood Road and Newnham Road at 00:44 to reports of a single-vehicle collision involving a grey Yamaha motorcycle, as first reported by Island Echo. It’s believed the motorcyclist was travelling away from Haylands on Stroudwood Road, towards Havenstreet, when the crash occurred. The rider appears to have continued straight on at the junction, mounting the grassed area before colliding with a signpost and coming to a stop in a hedge on the opposite side of the road. The rider, a man in his 20s from Newport, was rushed to St Mary’s Hospital before being airlifted directly to Southampton General Hospital by the Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance at around 02:00. Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary is now appealing for witnesses and dash cam footage to help piece together the events of the early hours.
