DORSET’S AIR AMBULANCE TOUCHES DOWN IN SANDOWN IN LIFE-SAVING MISSION

The Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance has landed in Sandown this morning (Monday) to airlift a seriously unwell patient to a mainland hospital. The assistance of the out-of-region air ambulance – a temporary aircraft sporting an orange, white and green livery – was requested by the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service at around 10:35. The aircraft touched down at Sandown Rugby Club at just gone 11:00, where onboard medics were met by an operational commander. The patient, who was initially tended to in the community by firefighters from Shanklin, a critical care paramedic and an ambulance crew from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, has now been conveyed to the helicopter landing site and is being prepared for a life-saving flight to the mainland. UPDATE @ 12:08 – The air ambulance has lifted off from Station Approach this lunchtime, conveying the critically ill male at speed to the Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham. Flying doctors and paramedics have spent around an hour on the ground treating their patient, who is thought to have suffered a cardiac arrest. Local medics are now standing down from the incident.
