A Ryde woman has been ordered to keep her dog muzzled and on a lead in public after it bit a young child, and attacked another person just hours before. Aleksandra Rydz, of The Strand, appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court yesterday (Tuesday) accused of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control causing injury – a charge she pleaded guilty to at the first opportunity. Liz Miller, for the Crown Prosecution Service, told the court that on 25th May this year, at Appley Beach in Ryde, Rydz was enjoying a works BBQ accompanied by her dog, Maximillian. The 41-year-old had left a note around the dog’s collar stating ‘Don’t pet me. I’m not vegan’ but, despite this, a member of the public approached the animal. The individual was bitten by Maximillian – an elderly Polish rescue dog – and required hospital treatment. Ms Miller went on to explain that a short time later, at around 17:45, a young child approached the unaccompanied dog and, as a result, received a bite wound to her left hand. The dog was not muzzled, or on a lead or under control and the Crown stated that no efforts had been made to remove the dog after the first incident. Defending, Lucy Linington addressed the bench to say that the animal had never bitten anyone before – something Magistrates questioned given the warning attached to the dog’s collar at the start of the BBQ. Ms Linington herself argued a point the Crown Prosecution Service had raised about Rydz being ‘intoxicated’, stating that drinking at an event doesn’t make one intoxicated. Magistrates heard that Aleksandra Rydz had inherited the dog from her late mother, at which point the defendant began to cry in the dock. After spending some time deliberating their decision, Magistrates handed down a 12-month community order with 200 hours of unpaid work attached. A Contingent Destruction Order was made in respect of the dog, Maximillian, that he must be muzzled and on a lead at all times when out in public – or face being destroyed.

The dog should have been destroyed, it’s already bitten twice. People need to understand the consequences
What a load of rubbish. This dog is elderly and probably can’t see very well. Rydz was completely at fault for taking it to the barbecue in the first place.
This woman is a vile drunk removed from pubs because of her behaviour. She believes now after all this time of leaving the dog in whilst being pissed she can take it out and we’re feel bad 4 her
owners fault not dogs , also please dont touch my dog he can be a bit snappy , oh no we can do what we want and just blame the dog
Lead, muzzle not a hand written note I’m not vegan. Stupid cow.
Magistrates should be held responsible if the next attack is fatal.
Dog, beach, are dogs allowed on that part of the beach? I’m sure bbqs aren’t allowed either… just more drunks unable to control themselves or others around them
NO YOU NEED TO BE DESTROYED!
Fair response I think
A dog can be vegan too! Thats veganphobic!
Sorry 2 bites to many ….our policy in our house is one bit and that`s it
You state, “Our policy in our house is one bit and that’s it”. You are a poet and don’t know it. I think that you meant BITE.
What does it take for a dog to rip someone’s arm off??? The dog should be destroyed, the owner should know better or actually doesn’t care more like having fun than keeping your dog under control, the beach is not a place for dogs that are not on a lead?? People like this keep making up excuses, KEEP CONTROL OF YOUR ANIMALS!!
Should have destroyed it straight away.
The poor dog is elderly & Rydz should never have taken it to the barbecue, when she had no intention of keeping an eye on it.
Dog should have been ‘the barbecue’ lol.
Dogs are dangerous animals, I know, I grew up with them, they can bite without provocation.
We never took our dogs anywhere without being on a lead out of consideration for others who wouldn’t appreciate being jumped on or bitten.
Society has lost common sense and common decency, there is now an aire of entitlement, and expectation that every body loves dogs and should accept being bitten or jumped on in a public place, that is not the case.
Put them on a lead, End of.
Sounds like she should be put down!
Excellent – at last, the law taking out of control dogs seriously. And I’m a huge dog lover and lifelong dog owner. Take responsibility for your dog or face the penalties. And sadly, your dog will be dealt with if you don’t. Wretched owners who shirk their responsibilities are a menace.
The dog should be taken away from the owner for the
safety of the people.
Too many persons who own animals are not
responsible to own them.
Another vicious shitting machine let roam by an arrogant owner.
Put them both down.
i bet your one that’s got feral kids running round the streets
Il wager you I haven’t.
Given your comment, it seems that somewhere a village is missing its idiot, jog on sunshine.
How true. When did you manage to escape? The police should be looking for you & detaining you under the Mental Health Act.
All dogs should be kept on leads in public
totally agree and not on one of those ridiculous extended leads, the owners have no control of a dog many yards behind them and the leads are a dangerous tripping hazard, also all dogs should be muzzled when in public.
You should be muzzled when in public
totally made up name surely?
