36-year-old Aaron Caley from Ryde will appear before the Isle of Wight Crown Court next month facing a charge of wounding with intent.
Caley, of Pellhurst Road, appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Monday (24th June) following an incident in Shanklin on Friday evening. As previously reported by Island Echo, emergency services were called to the junction of Regent Street and High Street when a male in his 50s was found with a stab wound to his back and a slash to his arm. Immediate medical attention was given to the casualty, who was conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Armed Police were deployed on the streets of Sandown and worked to locate their suspect, focusing on a property at the corner of Queens Road and North Road.
Following investigations over the weekend, Caley – previously of North Road in Shanklin – was charged with 1 count of wounding with intent and possession of a knife/blade/sharp pointed article in a public place. His case has been sent up to the Isle of Wight Crown Court where he will appear on 29th July. No pleas have yet been entered.
