AIR AMBULANCE SCRAMBLED TO SERIOUS MOTORCYCLE CRASH AT COMPTON

The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has been scrambled to a serious road traffic collision involving a motorcycle on Military Road at Compton this lunchtime (Thursday). Police and paramedics are already on scene between Brook and Freshwater, with the road closed in both directions between Freshwater Bay and Compton car park. The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service has an ambulance crew, a critical care paramedic and an operational commander in attendance. It’s understood the single vehicle collision occurred on the west side of Hanover Point – in the S-bends – at around midday. Southern Vectis is advising of delays on its Route 12 buses. The company says the 12:07 from Brook to Newport is significantly delayed by over an hour. UPDATE @ 13:15 – Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary says that the incident has involved 1 vehicle, a Yamaha YZF R1 motorcycle. It is the 7th road traffic collision involving a motorcycle in the past 2 weeks. The motorcyclist has sustained suspected serious injuries. UPDATE @ 14:15 – More than 2-and-a-half hours after the crash occurred, the motorcyclist has been transferred into the air ambulance and is being flown directly to Southampton General Hospital. The road remains closed at this time.
