Firefighters are responding to an incident at Rainbow Fish Bar in Freshwater this evening (Friday). 2 appliances from Newport and Ryde are already on scene, with further appliances from Newport and Sandown thought to be en-route. Staff and customers were evacuated from the takeaway at around 18:55. It is currently unclear what has led to the emergency call out for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, with no clear signs of fire. Island Echo is told that the incident may involve fire and a gas leak. Breathing apparatus has been donned and hose reels laid.
Roads in the area have been closed by Police, causing travel disruption on Freshwater’s one-way system. A cordon has also been erected around the scene as crowds gather. UPDATE @ 20:23 – Island Echo understands 2 mainland appliances have been brought over to the Island from Portsmouth, to ensure adequate fire cover.
