1 person was treated for the effects of smoke inhalation following a fire at a restaurant in Cowes High Street during the early hours of yesterday morning (Sunday). Crews from Cowes and Newport were alerted to the incident at 04:30. Firefighters arrived on scene to find smoke logging throughout the ground floor, with breathing apparatus donned to investigate the cause further. A bag of clothes was discovered smouldering towards the back of the property, with 1 hose reel jet used to extinguish it. Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed that 1 casualty was treated for smoke inhalation as firefighters cleared smoke from the building using ventilation fans. The incident was closed shortly before 06:00.
