An emergency on the beach at Freshwater Bay has led to the scrambling of the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance this lunchtime (Sunday). The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service has an ambulance crew and 2 response cars in attendance at Gatehouse Lane, near to Freshwater Independent Lifeboat Station. They are tending to a patient on the beach. HM Coastguard is also attending with The Needles Coastguard Rescue Team on scene. The incident began at around 11:45. Flying medics have touched down in a field near to Dimbola Lodge and are now making their way to the beach to assist local blue light colleagues. UPDATE @ 13:03 – The air ambulance has lifted off from Freshwater Bay, but has not conveyed the patient to hospital.j UPDATE @ 15:30 – Police have confirmed that a man in his 60s died in Freshwater Bay this lunchtime.
