Armed Police have descended on the streets of Shanklin this evening (Friday) following what is understood to be a stabbing – with a suspect still at large.
1 male is said to be in a serious condition and is being treated by paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service following an incident outside the Conservative Club on Cross Street, at the junction with High Street and Regent Street. The crime scene has been cordoned off as officers launch their investigation. On nearby North Road, several armed officers are scouring the residential area in a bid to locate their suspect. The incident began at around 19:00.
UPDATE @ 20:43 – A cordon remains in place as Police await an update from doctors on the victim’s condition. Island Echo understands a male received a stab wound to the arm, dripping blood along the pavement on Regent Street before coming to rest on a bench. Although the area outside the Con Club is cordoned off, the attack is not thought to be politically connected.
Armed Police have now stood down from the incident – with a suspect thought to now be in custody. Attention of Police has been focused on Dove Court on Queens Road.
