Reports of a man roaming a local recreation park with a weapon led to the deployment of Armed Police from both sides of the Solent last night (Saturday). Shortly before 20:00, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary received reports of a person, thought to be armed with a potentially deadly weapon, in the vicinity of Simon Street Recreation Ground in the middle of Ryde. Armed officers initially responded to the area before additional resources from the mainland were called upon. A Ministry of Defence Police boat rushed 4 more authorised firearms officers across the Solent from Portsmouth to Ryde Pier. However, the incident was stood down shortly after their arrival at Ryde. No persons or weapons were located and no offences have been identified. This latest incident comes just days after a man from Belfast is alleged to have pointed a rifle at members of the public on Culver Down. Earlier this week Police recovered a gun from a wooded area on the outskirts of Newport.

The island is becoming the Wild West.
it wasn’t the wild west until all this dross started moving here
As with the entire UK too
At one time we had enough prison space, spare beds for our sick and just enough housing for OUR own people to buy or rent.
The ‘common denominator’ is easy to see, IF you remove Government/ BBC brainwashing adhesive affixing those blinkers or shades
The UK as we know it no longer exists
and it won’t get any better.
The damage was done years ago and now it is
Spiralling out of control.
I feel sorry for the children of today, their futures are bleak.
Sadly Reform would not have made things any better, it is
too late.
No the Conservatives in their wisdom started shutting down prisons to save on cost”they must have thought crime would fall”?and yes the goose who lays the Golden egg is also real, selling off the land prisons stood on to their own friends in development…..prisons are full of our our own born bred cluttering it up as re-.offending rate is roughly 89%….go bang your drum elsewhere you said individual..nobody cares about your “mute political points”or just simple prejudice and bigotry….like the dinosaur you should be extinct or we can live in hope of that.
Theresa May decimated the police claiming crime was going down. It wasn’t. People had just stopped reporting it because there was no point. They then cut the prison funding because crime was falling.
The dross as always been here, but don’t like to
admit it.
Maybe if you grew up on the island you would know there were here all along.
All these comments about the good old days are utterly deluded. Take a few history lessons and learn what this country was really like 20, 50, 100, or 200 years ago.
