About BCM

BCM stands for Bays Curry McCowen, the surnames of the founder partners of the firm – Andrew Bays, Iain Curry and Henry McCowen.

The founder partners were all formerly partners in the locally renowned firm of Chartered Surveyors, James Harris, which was established in 1861. This business was sold to a major national agent in 1997 and the partners remained there until December 2000. They started BCM in January 2001.

Today BCM is a multi disciplined rural property services firm operating throughout southern England and on the Isle of Wight with offices in Newport headed by James Attrill and David Long, together with an experienced team supporting all aspects of Rural Property, Farm and Business Sales, Estate Management, Rural Consultancy, Design and Planning services.

James Attrill of BCM comments:

“Glamping is a growth market and our planning team have been busy on a number of sites – both on the Island and mainland securing permission for glamping businesses. Equally we find potential glamping operators regularly enquiring to purchase or rent suitable areas of land to build their businesses.

“Vintage Vacations is a fantastic “off-the-shelf” entry into this lucrative sector – such a unique and high-profile offer will always stand out above the rest.”

Vintage Vacations is currently located in a secluded field at Ashey in the heart of the Island. Whilst there is the opportunity to continue running the business from this site, the nature of the business means that it could easily be relocated to another part of the Island or even moved to the mainland to start a new business or enhance an existing one, in addition to providing the opportunity to diversify for a farm or landowner.

The iconic silver Airstream caravans easily add diversity to an existing farm or estate and could provide high value, unique accommodation for festivals and festival themed events.

This turn key business opportunity has been brought to market by sole agents BCM who have been working with Vintage Vacations almost from the very start, building a long-term supportive relationship. Reflected in the fact that in 2009 David Long gained the planning permission for Vintage Vacations and James Attrill negotiated the lease with the land owner for the site they still reside on.

As you would expect from such an iconic business, Vintage Vacations, their Airstream and Classic Caravans are frequently featured in photoshoots and you may have caught sight of Vintage Vacations’ airstreams in the Sunday supplements, top magazines and even as the location for music videos and fashion shoots.

In 2019, they now move into their 16th season with the Vintage Vacations caravan fleet consisting of 13 vintage American caravans comprising 9 Airstream, 3 Spartans and 1 Vagabond – all with aluminium finishes. Added to this are 4 classic British caravans, all restored to original ‘properly vintage’ condition. To maintain authenticity, the caravans have been carefully preserved to their original condition and still retain many of their original features complete with period accessories and decoration.

The Airstreams have also proven very popular as a wedding and events destination and have also hosted many corporate events in addition to hosting many photoshoots and film crews. The opportunity to expand and grow this area of the business is vast and potentially particularly lucrative.

As sole agents BCM are pleased to work with the owners on this ‘once in a lifetime’ sale. Working closely with the leisure and tourism sector on both the Island and mainland, BCM are well placed to manage more unusual sales such as Vintage Vacations.
