Wightlink’s Fishbourne-Portsmouth car ferry service is running with delays of 90 minutes today (Friday) due to a mechanical issue with 1 of the ferries.
The cross-Solent operator advised earlier this morning that customers can expect their sailings to be delayed by an hour. Now, it is said that the delay has increased to an hour and a half.
No information has been given on the specific nature of the issue.
Wightlink apologises for any changes to your travel plans.
It’s the second time in the past week that services on the Fishbourne-Portsmouth route have been affected with staff shortages forcing a number of sailings to be pulled last Sunday, as previously reported by Island Echo.
UPDATE @ 11:08 – Wightlink has now advises that the delays have been reduced to 70 minutes.
Customers are being urged to continue to check in on time for your booked sailing.
UPDATE @ 15:30 – Some sailings are now delayed by 2 hours while the 15:40 from Fishbourne and the 16:40 from Portsmouth have both been cancelled.
More cost cutting by Shxtlink, expensive monopolies greedy managed….They couldn’t run a boating lake….
Oh dear, oh dear, more problems with this 2nd rate service!
How they have the nerve to charge so much for such a shoddy service beggars belief. The Island deserves better!
I am not sure if Wightlink know what the truth is but if they did they are not going to make it public
Spill the beans?
I am sure if your car worked 18 Hours a day 7 days a week like the Ferries Do thay would break down now and again to, everything mechanical can break without notice no matter how much is spent on maintaining them.
Differnce is that my car does not have not have enginers on site 16 hours a day to prevent such malfunctions.
70 mins? We was stuck for nearly four hours! My husband is disabled, we was completely forgotten about, as well as other people. Mechanical problems do occur, but this was human error that led to a meltdown in communication. Thank you to a member of staff that made sure we boarded the 6pm crossing.
Wightlink .. Nice business “to do” people with and we have been done !! … still no improvements Wightlink ..
