Around 70 properties in the Luccombe area of Shanklin have been affected by a small leak discovered in a nearby water reservoir.
Whilst in the process of draining down the Great Wood reservoir, Southern Water discovered a small leak and as a precautionary measure the company are now completely draining the large tank.
Nearby properties have been switched over to a tanker-fed water supply whilst work is carried out and bottled water has also been given to households. Locals are being advised to boil tap water before use.
The temporary situation is expected to last until Monday lunchtime.
A Southern Water spokesperson told Island Echo:
“We have a problem at one of our reservoirs that feeds the Luccombe area and until we resolve the issue water is being provided by tanker and bottles to a small number of properties.
“We have also taken the precautionary measure of issuing boil notices to those properties until we can confirm that the water we provide meets our high standards.”
