A 20-year-old Ventnor man who was caught doing nearly double the speed limit whilst driving through Rookley on his motorbike has been handed 6 points on his licence. Daniel Knights, 20, of Castle Close in Ventnor appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court having admitted speeding – exceed 30mph on a restricted road via the Single Justice Procedure. Prosecuting, Liz Miller, told the court that on the 3rd October 2023, an on-patrol Police officer was driving on the A3020 in Rookley when they noticed a KTM motorcycle travelling toward Godshill. Despite several signs showing that the speed limit in the area had decreased to 30mph, the bike continued to accelerate overtaking another vehicle on the road, forcing the Police car to give chase. The officer activated their lights and sirens, pushing their car to 60mph just to keep pace with the 2-wheeler. Eventually, the officer pulled the bike over and reported Knight who – at the fastest recorded speed – had been doing 58mph. Defending himself, Knight said he had no issues with the details outlined by the prosecution but that he simply asked the Magistrates for leniency given it was his first offence. Magistrates endorsed Knights’ licence with a total of 6 points and fined him £576. He was ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £230 surcharge fee.

Another motorcyclist driving as if he owns the road and puts everybody else at risk.
You forgot to mention bike riders having to ride on the defensive coz car drivers are cocks and don’t give bikes space ect!!@@@
Bike riders are selfish and most are incompetent and always want to blame somebody else
Yep and they want us to think bike. NO BLOODY WAY UNTIL THEY THINK ABOUT HARMING US. Whole family wiped out in a car in Whitby by a speeding motor bike.
“ whole family wiped out in Whitby” ……. Police have arrested a male driver and are asking for dash cam footage regarding a Porsche 911 in the area before and after the crash! Sounds like a speeding car unless Porsche have started producing motorbikes under the 911 name ???
“The man, of which no further details were given by police, was detained on Wednesday morning while police urged anyone with information about a grey Porsche 911 being driven in the area to contact them”
Sorry it was Wakefield not Whitby and it was still a speeding biker that wiped the whole family out.
That was a 3rd party. Please don’t spread false rumours about people, particularly people who were killed in such tragic circumstances.
I’m reporting this post for making such false accusations.
Your father was a danger to children

Leniency he’s lucky he didn’t loose his licence the stupid idiot it’s 30 for a reason!!
just think if he was in a car the fine would be less
Great news, let’s get these selfish B’stards off our
Roads.
More needs to be done on the Island to tackle
Speeding.
Let’s hope the 2 new MPs take action.
So many Roads are treated like Autobahns.
Fair play to the young man for putting his hands up, we’ve all made mistakes.
He didn’t have much of a choice!!
No way condoning biker speeding, but officer could of radio on a head rather than speed himself causing risk, the rider pulled over and accepted he was speeding – yet Court see fit to punish him more than if he had no licence, Insurance or not stopped when requested !. Look at the guys riding around Ryde, Sandown and Newport on high power electric trail bikes, they not only not not keeping to speed limits but on pavement, wrong one way street etc.
So he gets a lesser punishment than the serial thief with 70+ previous convictions? Seems overly harsh to me.
Hooray! I could have sworn the rules don’t apply to motorbikes.
Time to get tough on speeding motorists.
Heavy fines and BANS are required.
Also anyone parking on Double Yellow Lines
or on Pavements need clamping and
Have their vehicles towed away and crushed.
Regent Street Shanklin and outside
Sandown Pier are 2 areas where motorists
constantly break the Law.
Why only 6 points!, a Ban would be better.
Keep our Roads safe.
