A Learning Support Assistant from Cowes, accused of grooming a teenage pupil, has pleaded not guilty to a number of sexual offences.
Melanie Rock, 33, of Arctic Road, appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court earlier today (Tuesday) accused of serious matters relating to her employment at an Isle of Wight educational establishment.
It is alleged that she, being a person in a position of trust, caused/incited sexual activity with a 15-year-old boy, as well as meeting a boy under the age of 16 following grooming.
It is claimed that the school staff member struck up a relationship with the teenager in October 2023 then continued both online and in-person contact outside of the school environment. This led to an alleged incident of sexual touching at Miss Rock’s home address.
The situation was brought to the attention of safeguarding authorities when Miss Rock was spotted with the boy.
Melanie Rock denies the charges against her and will appear before the Isle of Wight Crown Court for a plea and trial preparation hearing on 8th December.
She has been given unconditional bail until that time.
