A shoplifter who travelled to the Isle of Wight and stole almost £500 of goods from the Co-Operative in Ryde has been jailed for 24 weeks following similar offences in Southampton and Derbyshire.
45-year-old Raymond Skelly, of no fixed abode, was arrested in Ryde High Street on Saturday (23rd September). It is thought – but not confirmed – that he was begging outside Mountain Warehouse.
Following enquiries over the weekend, Skelly was charged with theft to the value of £456.65 from Co-op on Saturday; theft to the value of £131.23 from Waitrose in West Quay, Southampton on Wednesday 20th September and theft to the value of £1,469.82 from Boots in Glossop, Derbyshire between 1st and 7th June.
He was also charged with theft of 2 hand axes and a bottle of chainsaw oil from Wren Nest Retail in Glossop, Derbyshire on 15th May.
Appearing at Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court this morning (Monday), Skelly admitted all of the offences and was jailed for 24 weeks.
at least he won’t have to worry about bed and breakfast over winter
Of no fixed abode.
Well he has a roof over his head now for Christmas and New Year which he probably wanted all along.
I am unsure on the rules of benefits but I would have thought that he would need a fixed abode to claim benefits.?
How was he affording to travel around the UK.? Is there that much money in begging.?There must be many more crimes that he wasn’t caught for around the country.
Cut his hands off, cut his legs off, put him in the gaol showers and call the film ~ Boxing Raymond
Like what you said, need a fix abode to claim benefits, if no fixed abode then this is his income, begging and stealing, viscuous circle, maybe he needs a place and an income, then merge he would stop doing what he is doing, but without food and shelter he has no other choice.
Free board and lodging for a minimum of 12 weeks.
He should have just arrived on the Island by Dinghy, then he would have been
Transferred to a 5 Star Hotel on the mainland with full board and a sea view.
Sounds like he’s just out there surviving probably living in the woods. No victims no one was harmed. They’ve just done him a favour he will chill for the winter and repeat. That’s how our communities are so stuck up there’s gonna be thousands of these types of drifters in the near future and good luck to them because there is no other help out there any more
The more people that don’t pay the more people pay that don’t, so we are all victims
