An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson following a series of fires at the former Ocean Hotel in Sandown. Police made the arrest earlier today (Sunday) as part of ongoing investigations into the recent arson attacks on the derelict property. In recent weeks firefighters have been called to the seaside resort of Sandown on numerous occasions after receiving reports of smoke issuing from the derelict Ocean Hotel. Fires have been located across all floors and all have been fairly small in scale. A spokesperson for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has said:
“Deliberate fire setting in any building is dangerous and puts lives at risk. We will not tolerate this type of behaviour in our town centre. We are working hard to identify the perpetrators”.
Anyone with any information is asked to call Police on 101 or email [email protected]. UPDATE MONDAY – Police have confirmed that the 18-year-old has been bailed until 18th November. Investigations continue.
